This leads to the next question: Is it really a great deal to get cheap photos taken for you when the end result is something that you don’t love? In all of my years as a professional photographer providing various photography services I can’t begin to tell you of all of the stories I heard from people who chose a photographer on the basis of price rather than quality. The stories usually ended with something like, “I really wish I hadn’t worried about price and chose you instead.”
Quality Photography Services Aren’t Cheap For A Reason
There is a good reason that great photography services will usually cost more than many photography studios today. The reason is that full time photographers have devoted their lives to portrait photography, and this is their source of income to feed their families. Not only did they spend countless hours (months and years really) learning how to perfect what they do, but they also have the expenses of the equipment and routine overhead required to run their professional photography services.
On the other hand we have someone who was told by someone that they take pretty pictures. So that person decides that he or she can make a few bucks by taking pictures of people after work or on the weekends. This person hasn’t invested his life into photography. He’s just having a little fun and making a little extra money. Don’t get me wrong. This photographer would be perfect for some people who only have a minimal budget to work with. But you will get what you pay for.
If you need a wedding photographer I suggest you first and foremost find a photographer with a portfolio of portraits that you love and would love to have of your wedding. Then you can sit down with the photographer and discuss the prices. You may find that photographer’s prices to be more than you can afford. Just move on and try to find another photographer you like. You may not like the next photographer as much as the first, but that is the trade off you are going to have between quality and price.
